It’s official and the sign is posted on Waymouth Rhymer Hwy across from the Tutu Veterinary Hospital. Development of the “Leonardo Trotman Drive” has commenced and will be a major road at the commercial hub of St. Thomas. The “Leonardo Trotman Drive” will ease the flow of traffic at the Tutu Park Mall, Fort Mylner intersection (Route 38 & Route 32 intersection).

Helicopters overhead and the United States Coast Guard Cutter leading the way is how the largest cruise ship in the world made its debut to St. Thomas, United States Virgin Island. Guess the Oasis of the Seas and you are correct. The people of the Virgin Islands stopped along the mountain top road sides to take a look at this beauty as she made her entrance to her port-of-call.
This ship spans 16 decks, and carries about 5,400 passengers. Today, St. Thomas will be a busy port-of-call with several other ships in port. Totally, about 15,000 plus passengers & Crew will call St. Thomas home for the day.

Today was an absolutely beautiful day to just kick back and relax and that is just what we did. We spent the day at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – Magens Bay Beach on St. Thomas United States Virgin Islands. The sea was clam and to our surprise the ocean temperature was warm. It was just great to get away for a few hours and sit back, relax, spend some time in the ocean or just read a good book. Let the pictures below speak a thousand words.

YESTERDAY AT AROUND 3PM I HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE SOUTHWEST SIDE OF THE ISLAND OF ST. THOMAS AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS AS I SUSPECTED – IT WAS THE WAVE OF AN EARTHQUAKE. I WAS STANDING I THE SITTING ROOM AND FELT THE STRONG ROLL OF THE WAVE PASS UNDER MY FEET. IT WAS STRONG.

Looking to play a round of golf in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, then Mahogany Run Golf Course is the place to play and that is because it is the only golf course on St. Thomas. But, don’t let that fool you. The course is in great shape and if a challenge is what you’re looking for, you’ve found it.

The golf course opened in 1980 and the design was completed by George and Tom Fazio. In 2004 the course was purchased by Ginn Resorts. The yardage of the course is 6008 yards playing the back tees and 5509 yards from the middle. Make sure you bring the best game you have because some of the fairways are tight. So, bring extra balls because you may say goodbye to a few. On the back nine you hit three holes known as the “The Devil’s Triangle”. This is hole’s number 13, 14 and 15. Hole 14 will take your breath away because of the great ocean view. This hole is a 146 yard par 3 (from the back tee) and you have to carry the ball over the ocean onto the green. 146 yards sounds not so bad, don’t forget the wind and the wide ocean below. Below is a photo of number 14. The pro shop will award any player that avoids a penalty stroke on holes 13, 14 and 15 the “I Survived The Devil’s Triangle” certificate.

This month (October 2009) Mahogany Run Golf Course is offer local residents a special rate Monday – Friday which is just great. Pay for 9 holes and you get to play 18. If you’re a golfer, that is a deal not to be passed.

ROAD TO KNOWLEDGE & BEYOND

Work continues on Leonardo “Nardo” Trotman Drive. Progress continues to be made on the development of this road that will split off from Weymouth Rhymer Highway before Edith Williams Elementary School heading towards PriceSmart. Development of this new route will be of great benefit to the people of the Virgin Islands on the island of St. Thomas. It is the hope that this bypass will help to relieve some of the congestion from the Fort Milliner intersection. Once completed the people of St. Thomas will have something to be proud of. The site preparation work is being performed by Grade-All Heavy Equipment. The road is expected to be finished in 2010 and coincide with the completion of the St. Thomas Regional Library and Records Center. THE SAINTS MAKE A MOVE

The time has come. All Saints Cathedral School has started work on clearing the site for construction of their new school. The school will be located adjacent to PriceSmart Warehouse Club Shopping in Estate Charlotte Amalie on property donated by the Harthman Family. This is going to be a teriffic location to develop a new school. This location provides for ease of access and sourrounding greenery that will help to provide a friendly school environment.
